What this tool is

This is a guidance tool for Year 8 and Year 9 students and their parents, built to help you explore suitable IGCSE options before you sit down with your school. It is aligned to Cambridge IGCSE thinking: the skills each subject rewards, how it is assessed, and the pathways it commonly leads to.

It is not an AI replacing your school counsellor, and it does not promise results. It gives you a well-reasoned shortlist to discuss with parents and teachers, who know your child and your school's exact subject options.

Transparent

Every match uses a fixed scoring formula you can see. No hidden or random AI guessing.

Balanced

Each subject comes with reasons it may suit and honest things to consider.

Pathway-aware

Matches nudge towards medicine, engineering, business, law and creative routes.

Private

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

How it works

  1. Rate a set of academic strengths, learning preferences and interests from 1 to 5.
  2. Pick the future direction your child leans towards, or choose “unsure”.
  3. Get a ranked list of subjects to consider, each with the reasoning behind it.
  4. Save or share the report, then discuss the shortlist with your school.

Start the subject assessment

Answer honestly — for a parent, answer as your child. 1 = low or rarely, 5 = high or often.

D. Future interest
Which direction is your child leaning towards? This gently boosts aligned subjects.

Subjects to consider exploring

Ranked by match score. Based on your responses, these subjects may be suitable to discuss with your school.

Please note. Subject availability and entry requirements vary by school, and university pathways set their own conditions. This report is a starting point, not a decision or a guarantee. Students should discuss final choices with parents and teachers.

How the matching is scored

Each subject uses a fixed weighting. Your 1–5 answers become 0–100 scores, multiplied by these weights, then ranked. A small bonus is added when a subject aligns with your chosen future direction.

Physics

Maths strength 25%, problem solving 30%, science 20%, technology interest 12%, practical work 13%.

Biology

Science 25%, health interest 25%, memory for detail 20%, practical work 15%, nature interest 15%.

Computer Science

Logical thinking 32%, technology interest 28%, problem solving 25%, maths strength 15%.

Economics

Analytical thinking 30%, business interest 25%, maths 20%, society interest 15%, writing 10%.

IGCSE subject selection: common questions

How do I choose IGCSE subjects for my child in Malaysia?

Start with your child's genuine strengths, how they like to learn, and the areas they are curious about, then check those against the subjects your school offers and any future pathway they lean towards. This free tool turns a short questionnaire into a shortlist of Cambridge IGCSE subjects worth exploring, with a clear reason for each. Treat it as a starting point for a conversation with your school, not a final decision.

Which IGCSE subjects are best for medicine?

Medical pathways usually build on Biology and Chemistry, supported by strong Mathematics and often Physics. Universities and foundation programmes set their own requirements, so always confirm the exact combination with the institutions your child may apply to. This tool highlights science subjects when a health or medicine interest is indicated, but the school and target universities have the final say.

Does this tool tell my child exactly which subjects to take?

No. It is a guidance tool, not a school counsellor and not a guarantee of results. It suggests subjects that may be suitable to explore and discuss with parents and teachers, and it shows the reasoning behind every match so you can judge it for yourself. Subject availability and entry requirements vary by school.

How does the subject matching work?

Every subject uses a fixed, transparent scoring formula. For example, Physics weights mathematics strength, problem solving, science performance and technology interest. Your answers feed those weights, and the tool ranks subjects by match score and explains which of your answers drove each result. There is no hidden or random AI guessing.

Is the IGCSE subject selection tool free?

Yes, it is completely free and private. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere; it runs entirely in your browser. vStudyWise membership, from RM60 a month or RM599 a year, is only needed if you later want full practice, marking and mock exams.
